Run for Reggie Update March 27

With only four weeks to go before the Country Music Marathon, we are all starting to get excited about the race and the opportunity to get together for such a worthy cause. I want to thank everyone who has contributed so far to the cause.

Fundaraisers: There are some very unique fundraisers in motion or planned in the next four weeks. In Evansville, Bonnie Herron has arranged for a poker biker run where local bikers will be visiting several restaurants and raising money for Reggie along the way. The goal for this fundraiser is $4500. Several Memphis restaurants have dedicated certain days for car washes, bake sales, etc. in an attempt to raise money for Reggie.

Fund Collections :On April 8, the Tompkins Division and Columbus market will be donating 3% of their net sales to the Reggie Foster Fund. When you think about it, this may cost the restaurants a maximum of $10 per day over the course of the month but the impact to Reggie and his family will be tremendous. Our goal remains $40, 000 but we will need every restaurants participation to make that happen.

In order for us to present Reggie with a check at the CMM in Nashville on April 25, the cut-off for collection of funds will be Monday, April 20. Restaurants and individuals should obtain a cashiers check or money order made out to the "Reggie Foster Fund" and send in to Carol Jackson at the home office at that time or hand deliver to their RM who can bring to our meeting in Nashville. Any funds raised after that date will continue to flow to the home office and Carol Jackson.

Training: For race participants, I hope your training is going well. The next two weeks are pivotal to ramping up your mileage and working on your oxygen or VO2 capacity. This is best done through interval training where you run at a slightly stronger pace than race pace and alternate faster and slower intervals. The combination of distance and speed is what you need for a great race and great time. Go to runnersworld.com or mcmillanrunning.com for great training tips for beginners or experts.

Hotels and Transportation: If you are coming to the race and need a hotel, you may be out of luck as Nashville hotels are filling up very fast. You may need to stay further away than you would like but if you are still in need, try the towns of Smyrna, Franklin, Cool Springs or Murfreesboro.

Looking forward to seeing what we can do for Reggie-Peter Tompkins 3/27/09

UPDATE ON REGGIE + EVENT UPDATE

Reggie Foster Update: Reggie is doing well with his treatments and expects to be back to work on March 23. The Owensboro team is holding a fundraiser for Reggie on February 28, in Owensboro. For more information contact Valerie at the Owensboro restaurant.

Country Music Marathon Participants: All regional managers, (Hal Osborne, Roger Mott, John Prior, Alan Goins, Gregg Acree and Randy Groover) in the Tompkins division have registered to run or walk the Country Music Half Marathon on April 25. We also have several managers, guests and spouses of team members interested in running. Please get those names in to your regional managers as soon as possible so we can create our roster. Remember that everyone must register at cmmarathon.com and do it soon. It would be great to have 40 runners and raise 40k for Reggie, which is entirely possible within the division and Dale Gallion's group is growing by the day.

Fundraising Update: Several good ideas have surfaced from different regions and restaurants surrounding fundraising. Car washes, % of tips donated on specific days, and $5 per week per team member are all original ideas that could accompany pledging a certain $ amount per mile. Randy Groover has three different people pledging significant $ amounts per mile and the big man has been training diligently for the event! We will be tracking fundraising progress per store and ranking on a weekly basis so that we can stay on track and recognize the top three stores and top region. The leadership team has also pledged to support by recognizing the top stores and region. Keep those good ideas coming in by posting to this blog or simply sharing with your regional manager. Remember that all checks should be made out to the Reggie Foster Fund. Note: The fund is not set up and established as a non-profit yet so donations are not tax deductible.

Training: For those running or walking I suggest you go to runnersworld.com/smartcoach and create a customizable training plan. Dale and I are also available to help create training plans that will get you across the finish line, alive and well. In my first half marathon six years ago, I only trained up to 8 miles and finished very strong. You'll be amazed how well you can do once you can get to that level. However, everyone participating needs to be on a training plan now.

Thanks to everyone for their support for this great cause and keep those great ideas coming in.
